Network protocol overheads
The following list shows the overhead of various network protocols. When we send very small messages this helps us understand whether and how we need to pack messages in order to reduce wastage.
- IP header = 20 bytes
- UDP header = 8 bytes
- AMQP frame header (v0-8/0-9) = 7 bytes
- SCTP header = 12 bytes
- SCTP data chunk header = 16 bytes
